Results + Points Number Game Round 2

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 16, 2010, 4:51 AM
The numbers generated by www.random.org were 1, 2, 5 and two people had chosen those numbers. They were Tinna-92 and Wolf-Chief. tinna-92 was assigned number 1 while wolf-chief was assigned number 2. One random number was generated which was number two, resulting in 396 Points going to Wolf-Chief as the winner of The Number Game Round 1. Congratulations! I hope you enjoy them <3

The Number Game Round 2

I have some Points that I want to throw back into the community, so I have decided to return to an old thing I used to do quite often. If you've been a long term devWATCHER then you'll surely remember this little game and how it works. If not, read on. It's all rather simple!

What's the Points amount?

396

(equivalent of a one month premium membership)

How it works

It's simple... you choose 3 numbers from 1 to 6. It's important to note that all numbers have to be different so choosing something like 3, 1, 3 will not be valid. Then you leave your lucky numbers in this journal (please do not note them to me).

After one week I will generate 3 random numbers by using www.radom.org. I'll go through my journal and see who has the winning numbers. In the event that several people pick the same numbers, I will assign a number to each name, generate a random number and pick the person that matches that number. Results will usually be posted on the same day. Something to note is that the order of the numbers doesn't matter.

End date: Thursday 16th December

The rules - please read

(1) You cannot have more than one vaild try (giving me one set of numbers). In the case of completely misunderstanding how the game works, giving me invalid numbers in the process, I may ask you to try again.

(2) This contest is open to everyone so feel free to have a go. However, there is one exception to this and that is if you're not overly active and not really fussed about needing the Points (either playing for someone else that you think will), please do not play. It's selfish to play and possibly win when there are others that could benefit more.

I hope you guys enjoy and good luck to all! <3

It seems I've found my way...

Wed Dec 8, 2010, 7:17 AM

...back here. Hey guys, it's been a pretty long time since I've updated on here. Truth is, I have't been around on dA for about 4 or so months. Real life  just caught up with me. Between that time I stepped down from being head admin of birthdays after 5 years. It was sad, but I could no longer dedicate a lot of my time there, so I handed it over to the awesome Caektiems. It couldn't be in better hands.

So, as you may have guessed by this journal entry I'm active again. I'm going to be "returning" to dA once more, however, my time and activity here will be very different from how it was before and I've also made some radical changes. I won't go into details how or why, I just know that I need to do things this way so dA feels more enjoyable to me and less of a chore.

On another note, I will return all the llamas given to me since I was away. I'm  not about to break my word right now. Last, but certainly not least, thank you all for your lovely comments, favourites and devWATCHes. I appreciate it more than you know and have read every single one!

I hope you are all wonderfully well

Some thoughts on favourites

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 29, 2010, 5:27 AM

Thoughts on favourites

If I had to choose one thing that has bothered me a fair bit lately then it has to be the whole favourites situation around this place. To think a deviation is only as good as how many favourites it has is complete and utter nonsense to me. I understand that some people may think "Well my art never gets that many favourites, so it can't be all that good", but it's not as simple as that. While some art that isn't that great indeed doesn't have that many favourites, consider the fact of how many deviations that aren't that good have many many favourites. So, are favourites really a good indication then of how good deviations are?

There are a good amount of deviations that are fantastic and deserve to bask in the glory of what is comments and favourites, but there are also a good amount of deviations that challenge high favourites of quality work, but in fact are mediocre at best. So what do you want? Do you want to have a gallery of deviations that whilst they don't have high favourites count, are consistent in quality or do you want a gallery that is filled with deviations smothered in favourites, yet your work leaves much to be desired? I for sure know what I'd like.  While some others that take centre stage with their mediocre work are under the illusion that they are good at what they do (and it's likely won't be improving any time soon), you have a chance to learn and improve your work if you need to and hopefully, get well deserved attention on your work. If not, don't worry about it. It's rather sad and screwed up (I myself sometimes get pissed off on behalf of others work that doesn't get much attention, while it goes elsewhere on unworthy pieces), but it's far greater to have good work and go under the radar then it is to be popular for work that needs to climb higher up the quality ladder

More Points! + DailyDeviants + Oh my goodness!

Birthdays Stamp Contest

I feel like a bit of a parrot at the moment probably due to the fact that I wrote a news article for it and also did a journal over at birthdays as well, but if you don't know about the awesome Birthdays Stamp Contest we've got going on at the moment, you should totally check it out! Lots of Points to be won and hey, it's a stamp contest, so it should be easy as pie to quite a few of you!

We could totally do with as much pimping and faving of the article as possible so that we can find our perfect and first official stamp!

DailyDeviants

As it stands at the moment, DailyDeviants are on a hiatus while they wait for new team member applications to roll in. This is such a great project and has been around forever, so if you love finding and featuring great unknown artists (specifically photography) and think you're up to the task to work within a great team, check it out and send in an application! Come on, you'll get to work alongside me. How awesome is that? :eyes:

Oh my goodness! Thank you!

A major thank you to all the comments and favourites I got on my recent DD Avera. I was so pleasantly surprised waking up that morning to see congratulations!

Also, in my ever so stupid ways, I decided to upload a new deviation on the very same day not thinking it would do all that well. Oh yeah, nice thinking there Zeta! It ended up being my most popular photo to date. Yes, even more than past DDs. Oh my God, I can't tell you how amazed I was by that guys. My first photo venturing into macro photography ends up getting a DD and my last photo ends up being the most popular. That to me is truly awesome because I was hesitant about it all at first. Seriously guys, thank you so very much for your constant support with my work lately. It's been blowing my mind in all sorts of ways!

300K PV over 15 Points giveaway over

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 18, 2010, 10:41 AM

15 Points giveaway OVER

Okay I had a winner or should I say winners over capturing the 300K pageview (which you can read below) and now I'm almost out of Points. I have but a mere 15 Points left in my account, so I may as well give some lucky person a second chance, right? Right! :D

So it's simple, the first person to comment in this journal with "givemethose15pointsnow", removing the spaces between the words and using ALL caps instead of lower casing like I have, can have the 15 Points. It must be done as I have just stated because if you stuff it up, it'll go to the next person that does it correctly!

300K Points capture OVER

UPDATE2: Wooo what a rush that was! I didn't think anyone managed to capture the 300K pageview screenshot, but in the end I had three notes in my inbox, with nothing but two seconds between the first two. BarbieDePlastico was the lucky person that managed to secure the screencap first and won the 70 Points, but I ended up giving 10 Points to oxcrushhed and 10 to perfpoliarch for getting the screencap too, but just slightly late. Thanks guys!

UPDATE: Okay so I've now hit over 298k pageviews and I must say, I got there a bit quicker than I thought I would, so anyone that's interested in trying to win those Points, consider this your last and somewhat helpful reminder that the time is near!

I'm in the mood to give away some Points, but since I really don't feel like taxing my brain right now with trying to create creative ways of giving them away, I'm going to go with a rather simple, straight forward, hassle free screenshot deal. So here's that said deal... I'll be approaching 300k pageviews soon, so if you can get a full screenshot (and by full I mean that the screenshot must be of the whole screen which includes the time within the operating system) of my 300k pageview, upload it to your scraps and then note me with the link as soon as possible, I will give you 70 Points. The Points will go to the first person who manages to get a note to me the quickest :D

She secretly wants more

She won't admit it,  but I know NovaDuck secretly wishes she had more llamas to add to her collection...errr... to care for I mean :paranoid: So if you have llamas to spare, make her happy and me happy by lovingly sending them over to her :bucktooth: If you do leave her one, let me know and I'll have a nosy through your gallery!

She might kill me for this, but it's my attempt at a cheerier journal entry :slow:

Blah + do you have a few to spare?

Journal Entry: Thu May 27, 2010, 12:44 PM

Blahhh

Those of you that have NovaDuck on Facebook will probably know that she left England yesterday and will soon arrive back in Australia. How do I feel about that? Pretty damn upset, but even that feels like an understatement to me. After spending almost two years with her, doing so many things together, I feel rather empty. I miss her awfully. I know some people mean well when they say things like "But she'll be back"/"She'll be back before you know it", but considering that our relationship heavily depends on her getting a visa to come back, it's not really that comforting : I can only hope that six months will pass quickly, but I've been there and know how it goes. Blah.

I'll try and update with a more cheerier journal sometime soon, but I just felt like I needed to show a response to the whole situation considering I've not said anything on Facebook (for my own sanity).

Do you have a few Points to spare?

EDIT: We reached our goal already! Thank you so much to everyone that helped us by donating some Points

Do you know of the very awesome birthdays project? Well basically we have a donation pool going over there as we're trying to gather some Points to hold a stamp contest and would really really appreciate any Points people have to offer. I usually don't like asking such things as it's often me giving rather than asking/taking, but we do need a little help to reach our goal! So if you think the project is pretty cool and support our effort with it (I think we do a pretty rad job even if I do say so myself lol), a few donations (over at birthdays) would be awesome and most appreciated <3

Give them to me? + photography

Journal Entry: Sun May 16, 2010, 3:06 AM

Give them to me

Okay, so since Nyssa decided that she was just going to post a random journal :evileye:, I may as well say "What the hell... give me your llamas!" now. So yes, give them to me! Please :paranoid: In return I'll give you extra special ones or something like that :bucktooth:

Macro photography and me

Phew! I'm mostly caught up on all my messages. It took quite a bit, but I got there in the end. Thank you to everyone for all the comments and favourites on Aqueos. I must say I was quite surprised; I guess you could say I'm just surprised in general regarding my switch to a different style of photography and how well its been received.

Apart from the few odd photo sessions where nothing just seems to come out right and much frustration is had (what photographer doesn't have that though), I can honestly say I've been enjoying macro shooting a lot. It's allowed me to get in touch with my creative side again and to have my brain work extra hard to think of different ideas. I don't know how long it will last when it comes to knocking out ideas for shots, but I hope it's later rather than sooner :D

Not so long ago I entered a photo of mine into what would be my first photo contest. When I say first, I don't mean just on dA, I mean ever! I decided to put my shyness aside for a change and entered Turain into Design-of-Liquid's It's Hip to be Square macro photo contest. As you can imagine, I was totally blown away when I noticed that my photo won joint 1st place. It's awesome to win anything, but more so when it's your first time entering something. Since I'm subscribed for a while, I decided to donate the 1 year subscription to one of the other contestants that didn't place in the top three. Awesome contest indeed!

So yes, you could say macro wise things have been going great lately!

Landscape photography and me

I'm sorry to those that watch me more for my landscape photography, but unfortunately my focus will be on macro for a while. That's not to say that I've abandoned my love for landscape photography, it's just I'm rather hindered with how far I can actually go with it. I don't drive, so I have to rely on public transport. As you can imagine, it can be a real pain in the arse to get to some of the more attractive and out of the way places; I'm tightly limited. Taking local photos just isn't cutting it for me anymore. So I guess you could say that until I can get that little problem sorted out, artistic landscape photography will be on hold for a while

The more upbeat news is that I recently received a cheque from Practical Boat Owner magazine for a single use publishing of one of my photos in their latest issue. It's certainly not one of my best photos, but it is rather cool and exciting to see my own photo in a printed magazine. This is now the second time I've been paid for use of my more travel stock photos and I haven't really tried to put them out there more.  Not to mention I can do better than those older shots now. It's just left me thinking that money wise, maybe I should concentrate on travel stock and leave the macro work for pure pleasure. Hmmm!

Ironic much? ,P

Updates & thoughts

It's not really a surprise to me that the most commented and favourited deviation of mine happens to be my Favs with comments stamp. So, out of curiosity (although already having a fair good idea in mind), I decided to count how many original comments it has. It currently has 842 comments, but when you break that down to original comments (not including the replies) on the deviation only, I counted 385... give or take a few. So that's basically 385 comments and 1,583 favourites. Now am I the only one that thinks the huge gap between the amount of original comments and favourites on that particular stamp is completely ironic? Mass amounts of favourites without comments on a stamp that literally says "Favs with comments mean more than favourites alone". You'd think I'd be a little annoyed at that, but I'm not. Maybe that's because I'm used to seeing just favourites on it every day. I do, however, find it completely baffling. I seriously don't understand the way some people's minds work. Like it, love it, support the message, but fav it without a comment? Irony at its best! ;P

My Llama love has left me

Sad, but true I'm afraid! For me the Llama fever is over :B It was cute, fun and exciting to start with, but I think it's reached a level that I don't quite understand or feel like I want to support anymore : Sorry guys! Some people are getting a bit too crazy and losing the plot I think >_> Back to being artistically devious I think :D

Happy Easter and takeaway mmmm

Happy Easter for those that celebrate it or celebrate the eating of chocolate lol. What's everyone doing this fine Sunday? And what's your favourite takeaway? God I'm hungry :B </random>

There's lots of things I could write about in this journal, but for something that's very personal and important to me, it deserves to take centre stage without any added trivial this and that business. So, what is  it?

Quite a few of you will know already if you have me on Facebook and also watch NovaDuck, but for those that don't:

I am now officially engaged!

We've known for quite some time that it would happen, but on a lovely Sunday night that's not long passed, NovaDuck properly proposed to me. To say I was surprised is an understatement (much soppy behaviour and sniffles followed >_>). She made everything just perfect and it was extremely romantic :giggle: We've been together for so long now and I honestly couldn't imagine there being such a person that's right for me other than Nyssa

As for the day, which I have been asked a lot lately, we're aiming for it to be on the 14th February. In all ways, I think it would be just perfect for us! Oh how I just can't wait to settle into "married" life :D

Show me what you've got

I'm quite fond of browsing dA and coming across new art, but it's not so often that I get to see the art of my watchers, so in the attempt to see more art from you guys, link me to a favourite deviation of yours. I'll be sure to take a look! <3

The number game results

A little bit later than it was supposed to be (as is the case with a lot of things I'm supposed to be doing lately), but the results from the little number game are in!

25 people played // 2, 3, 5 were the random numbers drawn // 3 people got the lucky numbers (heartMelinda, dubScartz and ExodusofButterflies) // 3 numbers were assigned to the above people // 1 number generated matching ExodusofButterflies's assigned number therefore resulting in her being the winner of the subscription. Congratulations!

Numbers generated by using random.org

Poll time

MoominMamma has a poll going and would very much appreciate any feedback on it. If any of you would be so kind as to just take a few seconds to vote, she'd be very grateful as would I!

Daily Deviation Suggestions

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 30, 2010, 2:01 PM

My Suggestions

I started suggesting DDs mostly since December 2009 after getting over my silly shyness and second guessing whether my choices were of DD quality. I generally like to suggest deviations that haven't received much attention and/or artists that haven't received a DD before, so this list mostly consists of underappreciated  deviations (with the exception of some here and there) that typically have low amount of favourites before I suggested them as DDs. Enjoy!

Deviations below are arranged so that the most recent are always first (newest from left to right). All deviations displayed were accepted and featured as DDs.

Have any DD Suggestions?

For those that don't watch her, the hottest ¢reative staffer (okay maybe I'm a little biased considering she's my lovely girlfriend) has had DD privileges for around a month now and would very much appreciate any photography related DD suggestions sent her way. So if you know of any deviations you think deserve to be a DD, head over to NovaDuck's page where you can read her guidelines for suggesting a DD and then get suggesting!

Give me your numbers!

Just pick 3 different numbers, from 1  to 6 and leave them in this journal. In about a week I will roll a die 3 times (or however many times I need to get 3 different numbers) and then I'll go through my journal and search for anyone that picked those numbers. In the event that several people pick the same numbers, I will assign a number to each name, generate a random number and pick the person that matches that number.

This is open to non-subscribers and subscribers. If you win, I'll ask you if you want to keep the subscription for yourself or donate it to someone or a contest <3

dA Workshop?

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 10, 2009, 5:51 AM

Updates & thoughts

dA Workshop

I love the Critique system and enjoy using it when I get the time to, but sometimes trying to explain something in a critique or comment isn't always an easy task. Explaining a crop, a colour change, curves adjustment or any other post production work, can be difficult in the sense that how someone understands your words isn't always how you visualised the outcome you tried to explain. When such a problem arises, I have the strong urge to accompany my critique with a visual suggestion that would show the recipient, along with my words, exactly what I am suggesting.

If anyone has ever used the site TrekNature before, then they'll know exactly what I mean by a photo workshop. If not though, basically, you can edit someone's photo and post it to a workshop. The photo is then available for the owner and users of the site to see both the original and edited version, where they can be viewed side by side if wanted. A description of what was done to achieve the final image usually accompanies the photo.

I truly love the ability to be able to do that and feel that it greatly enhances learning for those receiving workshop versions, as well as expanding on sharing knowledge and skills on an extra level. Of course, I'm talking mostly about photography here, but I can't help wondering whether something like that would bring many positives with little negatives. What are the pros and cons? Would it work better as part of the Critique system or separate? I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on this!

A little this and that

Hey guys <3 Unfortunately I haven't been too active around here for the last week and a half due to being pretty busy. It seems like there's always something to do and just as you mark off a few things, there's more to take their place. By the time the evening comes, I feel so tired that I just want to chill out and then go to sleep! I need to find a way to manage my time better. Actually, I need to find a way to do many things now that I think about it.

Saturday gone, Nyssa and I went to the Isles of Scilly for the day. It was great, but unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest, we didn't have near enough time to explore and do everything and I got rather sea sick having vomited six times in the last hour of going there :( We definitely have to go back for a week so that we can visit the other islands, see the seal colonies, wildlife and of course, in much better weather. I think flying there next time will be best lol.

So yep, I think that's it for now. I'm too tired and can't think of anything much right now. Before I finish though, if you haven't seen the user script by Solitude12 down below, then check it out. I personally think it's totally awesome!

I hope you guys are keeping well <3

Internet problems

So I'm back online and to my usual devious self :D I hadn't been around too much until about yesterday mainly because roughly a week before that I had very restricted internet access. Now when I say restricted, I mean in the way of having internet that felt WORSE than dialup. Everything was fine and I was getting my usual 6Mbit connection, then one evening everything painfully slowed down. 5 kbps is, to say the least, horrid. Spent a whole week with several phone calls every day and two engineer visits to finally utter the words "Do you have a complaints department?" and magically two hours later the problem is solved. Seriously, dealing with BT when you have issues, getting told one thing by one person, something else by another, promises of this and that... shocking. And no, Virgin Media are no better. I should know! RAH! So yeah, back now lol.

Ephargy in Plymouth

Recently Kym AKA EpharGy headed down to Plymouth (he's in the UK visiting from Australia) to meet up with Nyssa and I. We spent almost a week hanging out and what a time we had lol. We ate dinner out a lot, drank a fair bit (poor Nyssa ended up out of it and totally ill the next day lol), spent a day in Newquay, hit the cinema, totally tried to find some clubs playing trance and failed and soooo much more. I have to say thanks to Kym for everything. What a cool and seriously generous guy. He wouldn't let us pay for hardly anything and I feel so bad about that D:. So have to catch up with him in Australia next time!

My first time

I had my first shot while out with Kym and Nys! I also tried kangaroo meat for the first time :o No I didn't hop over to Australia for a few... we were at an Australian bar :P

Back from Oxford!

Hey guys! As some of you may have guessed, I'm back from Oxford. We had such a great time even if it was a little on the short side. Meeting Alex AKA Ice-11 was super cool after knowing him for years! A really lovely guy that was a pleasure to be around. Oh and what a great tour guide he was ;P

So what did we get up to? The train ride itself to Oxford was just fine, although I must confess to being pretty ticked off after both reservations on two trains had people sitting in our seats :| We checked in, had a little freshen up and then met Alex in the city centre, where coffee was had (not me, I had water. What a rebel I am), some sight seeing in very rainy weather and climbed to the top of the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin and took in same amazing architectural views. Had a nice drink, afterwards had a yumcious dinner and then spent the evening outside having a few more drinks in a pub with foundations dating back to 14th century. Lovely pub and night spent with great company.

Woke up on Thursday morning and wow, the weather decided to be extra nice to us with lots of displays of sunshine :D Headed back into the city centre to do some more sight seeing, taken the opportunity to actually get some snapshots of Oxford in better conditions whilst waiting to meet up with Alex again. More coffee, lunch, picture taking, sight seeing and talking then a rather relaxing time sitting down by the water with more talking and silliness :P The day seemed to go by really fast and before we knew it, it was time to head off to the train station. A totally better seat reservation experience on the way back and oh my God, saw the most awesome sun rays while the sun was setting over the lovely scenery. Damn, I wanted to take photos!

So yes, a rather awesome time indeed. Thanks Alex for such a nice time! Oh and here are some photos from the trip just in case anyone is curious to see.
